Basketball Points comparison between DraftKings and FanDuel

This write up will provide you with a comparison of the features of the two largest fantasy sport websites for daily fantasy basketball.

FanDuel Basketball Contests

Your basketball squad on FanDuel will always consist of a maximum of nine players regardless of which type of match you’re playing. You usually get a salary cap of $60,000 to draft your players. The value of the players is determined by their recent performances and overall level of skill so you can’t draft more than a couple of star players and still have enough left to fill your roster effectively. Your players score points in the following manner on FanDuel:

  • 3pt FG = 3 pts
  • 2pt FG = 2 pts
  • FT = 1 pt
  • Rebound = 1.2 pts
  • Assist = 1.5 pts
  • Block = 2 pts
  • Steal = 2 pts
  • Turnover = -1 pt

DraftKings Scoring Rules

The layout of a team on DraftKings is slightly different from that of FanDuel. Firstly, a DraftKings basketball team consists of eight players. Although players on DraftKings are valued in a similar manner as they are on FanDuel, the salary cap on DK is only $50,000. Like FanDuel, DK also offers different types of contests including leagues, one on one contests, tournaments and 50/50s.

Point scoring on DraftKings is done as follows:

  • Every point = 1 pt
  • Made 3 pt. FG = .5 pts
  • Rebound = 1.25 pts
  • Assist = 1.5 pts
  • Steal = 2 pts
  • Block = 2 pts
  • Turnover = -.5 pts
  • Double-Double = 1.5 pts (MAX 1 per player)
  • Triple-Double = 3 pts (MAX 1 per player)
  • Final Word

Important things to consider when playing on both websites:

On the surface level, there aren’t many differences between the two sites. Both of them have a similar layout that is fairly simple to navigate around and is filled with a lot of useful information. They host the same types of games like 50.50’s, head to head match ups etc as well. However, there are a few differences. The biggest of these differences is the way points are scored. The DraftKings scoring scheme gives you more opportunities to win points through their double doubles and triple doubles. Furthermore, at DraftKings you also suffer less for turnovers. The chance to earn extra points through double doubles and triple doubles makes valuable players like Michael Jordan even more valuable on DK than they are on FanDuel.
